Video Conferencing Safety Checklist
BYOD!
(Bring Your Own Device)
With a huge surge in video conferencing, hackers are using this as an opportunity to take advantage of compromised systems.
In order to be prepared, you need to make your experience as low-risk as possible.
Here’s a video conference safety checklist to create a safer and more secure environment for you and your family.
- Be skeptical of every email you receive that advises you to click on a link. Cybercriminals will send fake emails that look like video conference meetings that can be used to record your conversations and steal your information.
- Make sure your video settings are secure. There is an option you can enable to ensure your meeting requires a user to input a passcode. Send this code in a separate email.
- Update your anti-virus/ spyware software and also make sure the most recent Windows updates are installed. Hackers can spy on meetings and compromise webcams. Don’t strategize yourself out of compliance, especially if you’re handling sensitive information.
- Do not leave your children alone when they’re using a web conferencing service. It’s best to have them communicate with their friends/classmates from a place in your house that you can easily monitor.
- Do not post a video conference link on any social media platforms. The link should only be shared with the video conference participants.
